Following the successful acquisition and integration of the global Concrete Fibres business from Propex Holding LLC, Sika now has one of the widest ranges of fibres available on the market.
The perfect addition to Sika’s concrete systems, required predominantly for the construction of structural concrete slabs, composite metal decks and precast concrete, the acquired business included a 12,000 sqm production facility, enabling the firm to significantly increase capacity for both micro and macro synthetic fibres.
Why choose fibres?
In simplistic terms, fibre-reinforced concrete (RFC) increases the structural integrity of concrete, improving its strength, ductility, toughness and durability, as well as increasing energy absorption and fire resistance and reducing shrinkage cracking.
FRC is ideal for a number of applications, including:
- Ground supported slabs
- Composite metal decks
- Abrasion resistance
- Aggressive environments
- Volumetric mixers
Sika’s range includes several products under the SikaFiber® Enduro®,Sika Fibermesh®, Sika Fibercast®, SikaFiber® Novocon and SikaFiber® Novomesh categories.
With different fibres providing different performance requirements, it’s important to know which type is best for the job at hand.
- Steel fibres
- Increase crack and impact resistance
- Allow construction of jointless floors
- Allow suspended slabs
- Synthetic macro-fibres
- Ideal for ground-supported slabs
- Increase flexural toughness
- Improve impact resistance
- Provide more durability
- Synthetic micro-fibres
- Reduce plastic settlement and shrinkage cracks
- Decrease bleeding
- An alternative to crack control mesh
