Sika built a new six-storey technology centre in the Tuffenwies area of Zurich, where it has had production facilities for over a hundred years. The centre brings together its research and development activities in Switzerland, where the focus of its research will be on adhesives and sealants. The buildings aesthetic appearance depends on the quality of the façade concrete panels.
The façade was constructed with self-compacting concrete, in a thin-wall construction without movement joints, and required a fair-faced finish that would enhance the appearance of the building.
To provide a fair-faced concrete, Sika® PerFin concrete admixture and the mould release agent Separol®-G were utilized. This combination gave the optimum results for release performance and a high quality surface appearance. Sika® Viscocrete® high range water reducing superplasticiser makes it possible to produce complex architectural shapes as well as slender, aesthetic concrete elements that include dense steel reinforcement. In order to achieve the lowest possible shrinkage value, Sika® Control-40 was included in the mix design.
